ABOUT WISTERIA POTTERY
Welcome to Wisteria Pottery,! I'm Katherine and my introduction to pottery started when I was about 8 years old and my Mom, who was an artist herself, signed me up for pottery lessons at the Worcester Craft center in MA. I was hooked! I continued focusing on hand building at the Craft Center throughout high school. Then during my undergrad studies at Hartwick College I learned how to throw on the wheel and became focused on mastering the technique. I also learned about glazes and firing as well as important workshop maintenance like reclaiming clay.
After university I continued to take lessons wherever I was, In France or the USA. I could never last more than a few months without playing with clay! In the fall of 2023, after 40 years of taking lessons or working in someone else's studio, I made the leap and bought a wheel and carved out a corner of our mainly unused dining room for a home studio. I teamed up with Atelier Eclat d'Eau in Jouy Le Moutier for all my firing.
My style is very "American" and colorful with floral and animal designs. I am inspired by the Art Deco and Art Nouveau movements. My color palate and glaze choices are influenced by French Impressionist paintings as well as my garden. I work full time in an office but as soon as I'm home, I'm in my corner studio or garden. I plan on making small batches to sell online and in person with pick up at my house. I will also consider pre-orders.
